Sunday Sundown Rundown - 11/18/18

3 Up

1. Caris Levert Injury - Sure, it looked nasty (and felt downright sad) at first, but the diagnosis, fortunately, was just a dislocation. If you saw the injury, it's pretty hard to imagine that Levert will be back this year, but he will be. And after watching him ball for the Nets thus far this season, that's good to hear.

2. Mauro Ranallo - I'm throwing Ranallo some love this week. NXT Takeover was absolutely fantastic this weekend. And really, so was Survivor Series - the WWE killed it. But damn, Ranallo makes NXT so exciting. His energy as an announcer is so infectious, and it's what pro wrestling has missed since the days of Jim Ross. The guy is just the best.

3. Patriot Act - I started watching Hasan Minhaj's Patriot Act show on Netflix this week, and it's an awesome show. Politics. Comedy. Culture. Comedy. Relatable. Comedy. But most importantly, so informative and so profound, on so many topics. Good stuff. I was a fan since seeing his days on The Daily Show and of course, his Netflix special. I'm hoping this works out for the dude.

3 Down

1. California Wildfires - It's heartbreaking. What got me this week (besides the growing numbers, of course), are the before and after photos of towns, streets, and homes burned to the ground. It's absolutely devastating.

2. Office Reboot Idea - What's with rebooting everything? Sure, the SNL opener with some of the cast from The Office was nice, but seriously, we don't need a reboot. Actually, MOST shows don't need a reboot. When did Hollywood lose creativity?

3. Quick Trigger on Holiday Shopping - I get the time is on the cusp, but come onnnnnnn! Can we let Thanksgiving pass before we start the commercial rush?

3 Up

1. "They Didn't Steal Slaves" Teacher's Door - This was easily one of my favorite things of the week - probably the year thus far. Much props to Jovan Bradshaw and her powerful use of Rev. Nadine Drayton-Keen's words. The story of slavery shouldn't minimized to just Black History Month. But you know, whatevs.

2. Amazon NY HQ - So much props to my fellow New Yorkers who saw right through this Amazon to NYC deal, and pushed hard against it. The company would simply bring more gentrification to a city that doesn't need it, and of course, driving small businesses out. Amazon and NYC are just not a fit.

3. NBA All-Star Game - Look, the dunk contest stunk. It really did. But I have to give the actual game it's due - it was entertaining. And dare I say, there was some defense - DEFENSE! - being played in the 4th quarter.

3 Down

1. Jussie Smollett - Dude, come on. You planned this whole thing? I just really dislike situations like this that lessens the cr…

Farewell To Friday Night Lights

Well, after delaying the inevitable, I have completed the the fifth and final season of Friday Night Lights. A time I knew was to come eventually, as stated in my farewell ode to the one and only season of Lights Out, has indeed come, and the feeling that I have is one of anger, joy, and sadness. DP devotees already know about my strange addiction to the Friday Night Lights platforms – book, movie, and television show. I love all three platforms, the sayings, the mottos, the dialogue, the morals, and all of the subliminal messages and underlying messages of American life the three presented. Heck, the current DP design is based off of Friday Night Lights!
So yes, I am addicted. And because of that love and raw emotional connection the stories of each platform has with me, my first emotion is that of anger. It is very upsetting to watch a program as great as FNL (An Emmy Award Winning Series) along with the cult-like following that fought for the show every season despite a poor slot (…

2013 Bucket List - #26 Encourage a Guest Post - "Football: Dislike"

In a year where the DP has branched out to other sites, it's only natural that we have other contributors do so on this platform as well. As one of my goals for 2013, I wanted to have a guest blogger, and decided to go with my tag team partner (my wife for you DP newbies). See, she has an undying dislike for football, and I thought it would make for a good piece, would provide common ground for those that feel the same way, and of course, instant therapy for her problem with America's phenomenon. So without further adieu, here it is:
