Dome Pondering Movie Review: While We're Young (2014)

What is it about?

A middle-aged couple life's and perspective is changed when a younger couple enters their lives.

Who is in it?

Ben Stiller - Josh

Naomi Watts - Cornelia

Adam Driver - Jamie

Amanda Seyfried - Darby

Favorite Scene:

[Spoiler Alert]

The last scene when a toddler is playing with a cell phone takes a selfie, then dials and calls  friend. Both Josh and Cornelia stare at them in amazement and fright.

Favorite Quote:

"For the first time in my life I've stopped thinking of myself as a child imitating an adult."

Review:

While We're Young takes on a very interesting dynamic of dealing with age, while still not succumbing to the "old person" stereotypes. The film does a great job of this from the perspective of Josh and Cornelia, and how alive they feel when they tackle many of the things their new younger friends engage in. It's also very realistic when they realize that many of the things are just the process of life and growing up.

It's easy for many to identify with Josh and Cornelia as characters who become comfortable in their lives, and their search for more passion increases. However, towards the end of the film, the plot takes of a weird progression that focuses on the characters rediscovery of themselves being wrong. It's an interesting dynamic, but it falls flat in my opinion.

Ultimately, it doesn't hurt the movie that much as it's still a decent movie, but it's still a good watch. Especially for Adam Driver and Naomi Watts who were good in their roles.

Good concept. Decent film. So-so ending. Pretty "eh" watch if you have the time.

Grade: 2/5

2013 Bucket List - #29 Attend Wrestlemania

It only took me twenty eight years and twenty-nine events, but I finally (finally!!) made it to Wrestlemania. I've attended so many wrestling events in my lifetime, from small local shows to pay-per-view events, from small local promotions, to the global companies, but never had I gone to the big one - Wrestlemania.
Upon hearing the huge event was returning to the metropolitan area at Met Life stadium, I knew I had to attend. As soon as tickets went on pre-sale, I purchased them...way back in November. I knew, if not now, then when? If not this year, then probably never. Some might not understand the importance of it, but to crazy wrestling addicts like myself, this is the show. And while it wasn't on the 2013 Bucket List, this was on my absolute lifetime list, and this past Sunday, I placed a big fat check mark next to it. The following is a little review of my Wrestlemania 29 experience, live!

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 11/11/18

3 Up

1. Veteran's Day Weekend - Sometimes, saying "Thank a Veteran" sounds cheesy and not enough. And even the day feels, well, not enough. But really, it should feel that way, no? So many thanks to those who served our great country! And even that didn't feel enough.

2. Midterm Elections - I'm giving the "Up" for this week's midterm elections not because of the political outcome or strategy involved. I'm giving it some love because of the process involved. Because many people are once again invested in the political process. And because, we saw many first-time-elected candidates come to fruition - women, people of color, etc... Especially, so, the now overwhelming power of the woman vote.

3. MLS Playoffs - The MLS Playoffs has been awesome. And yes, I was glued to my TV for my Red Bulls who exercised some demons against The Crew tonight! Both Conference Finals are going to be really, really, interesting.

"Just Vote Republican"? - Thoughts on Balancing Politics and Faith in Today's World

"Just vote all Republicans! Listen to Rabbi, that's what we do!"

A few were startled by the man exiting the polling center  and shouting into his phone, offering advice to the confused political soul on the other end.

That was the scene I briefly encountered as I walked toward my voting site here in Brooklyn, New York. On a very charged election day with the house and senate up for grabs during this mid-term election, and of course, the unofficial kick-off for the 2020 Presidential race (God help us all), political thoughts and stances were heightened between all human beings. And so were stigmas, stereotypes, and well, the thats-what-we-dos.

I live in a predominately Jewish neighborhood that is counterbalanced with a diverse offering of non-jewish folk. As you can expect, the poling site in my neighborhood is not only split and stratified on these election days between Jews and gentiles, but by faith, by race, and of course, by socioeconomic status. And oh yeah, by pol…

The Pondering 10 - Favorite MLB Uniforms

Unlike most sports, baseball uniforms carry a lot of tradition and history. It's rare that you see baseball teams deviate away from the history of a club, and if they do, it's usually an ownership change. For the most part, in baseball, the uniforms are sacred. Because of that, Major League Baseball has many teams with uniforms that are very, very significant, and also, very stylish. As we did for the NFL (Pondering 10 - Favorite NFL Uniforms), the following Pondering 10 will take a look at my favorite MLB uniforms.
