Dome Pondering Movie Review: The Imitation Game (2014)

What's it about?

The story of Alan Turing, and his quest during WWII to crack the enigma code along with help from fellow mathematicians in order to end the war.

Who is in it?

Benedict Cumberpatch - Alan Turing

Keira Knightley - Joan Clarke

Matthew Goode - Hugh Alexander

Favorite Scene:

[Spoiler Alert!]

After cracking the code and realizing that the next attack was on a naval ship carrying the brother of Peter, Turing decides they cannot give away the fact that they have broken the code or else their work would have been for naught. The realization sets in of the lives that are on the line, and the tough decisions they had to make.

Favorite Quote:

"Sometimes it's the very people who no one imagines anything of who do the things no one can imagine."

Review:

Oddly enough, I never heard of The Imitation Game until my wife brought it up as an option for a movie night. Obviously, I did what most do, pull it up on IMDB, look at the rating, the description, and make an assessment on whether it's worthy of investing time in. All of the above passed the test.

Of course, I'm now glad I gave the green light as this film is very, very, very good. Benedict Cumberbatch (how great is that name?) is phenomenal and Keira Knightley is as solid as she always is. The main draw to this film is the overall story, which is tremendous. Especially, when it is one that went untold for so many years and changed the world for the better in so many ways.

To sum it all up, if you, like me, hadn't heard of Imitation Game, you can use this review as more push to do so. Again, a really, really good film.

Grade: 4.25/5

3 Up
1. Tammie Jo Shults - Kudos to the captain of the Southwest aircraft that blew an engine. Shults was able to land the plane safely with busted engine, thus minimizing the fatality of the fiasco to just the one person who unfortunately was sucked out of a window. So crazy. All of it, so incredible.
1a. Southwest In-Flight Crew - More kudos to TJS's staff who not only pulled a woman being sucked out of a plane back into the aircraft, but managed to keep everyone onboard safe and poised during the emergency.
2. James Shaw Jr. - There were even more heroes this week as James Shaw Jr. wrestled a rifle away from a madman who rushed a Waffle House in Tennessee and opened up fire. Took lots of guts, but Shaw saved countless lives.
3. LeBron James - I don't understand how any sports fan can say anything about LeBron James. The dude once again is carrying a rather dubious contending roster on his back during these playoffs.

3 Down
1. Waffle House - More mass shootings...Ugh. I r…

The Pondering 10 - Favorite MLB Uniforms

Unlike most sports, baseball uniforms carry a lot of tradition and history. It's rare that you see baseball teams deviate away from the history of a club, and if they do, it's usually an ownership change. For the most part, in baseball, the uniforms are sacred. Because of that, Major League Baseball has many teams with uniforms that are very, very significant, and also, very stylish. As we did for the NFL (Pondering 10 - Favorite NFL Uniforms), the following Pondering 10 will take a look at my favorite MLB uniforms.

2013 Bucket List - #29 Attend Wrestlemania

It only took me twenty eight years and twenty-nine events, but I finally (finally!!) made it to Wrestlemania. I've attended so many wrestling events in my lifetime, from small local shows to pay-per-view events, from small local promotions, to the global companies, but never had I gone to the big one - Wrestlemania.
Upon hearing the huge event was returning to the metropolitan area at Met Life stadium, I knew I had to attend. As soon as tickets went on pre-sale, I purchased them...way back in November. I knew, if not now, then when? If not this year, then probably never. Some might not understand the importance of it, but to crazy wrestling addicts like myself, this is the show. And while it wasn't on the 2013 Bucket List, this was on my absolute lifetime list, and this past Sunday, I placed a big fat check mark next to it. The following is a little review of my Wrestlemania 29 experience, live!

The Pondering 10 - All-Time Favorite Championship Belts

With the WWE finally moving on from the ridiculousness that was the appearance of the WWE championship (Really, they kept a spinning title for eight years), and of course the unveiling the look of the title, it got the wheels turning on the best looks for championship belts. From pro wrestling, boxing (although, don't expect to see any on this list as they are usually ugly), and mixed martial arts, there are plenty of different models, types, and appearances that come with them. The following Pondering 10 list is my favorite all-time championship belts.
