Dome Pondering Movie Review: The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

What is it about?

The true story of Jordan Belfort who rose to fame, enormous wealth on Wall Street, and enjoying a outrageous lifestyle before it all came to an end due to illegal crime, corruption, and the pursuit of the federal government.

Who is in it?

Leonardo DiCaprio - Jordan Belfort

Jonah Hill - Donnie Azoff

Kyle Chandler - Agent Patrick Denham

Favorite Scene:

When Bellfort and crew decide to smuggle money into Switzerland to stash away in Swiss banks, Donnie is supposed to drop money off to his hired "rathole", but instead lets his personal feelings get in the way as he begins insulting him and thus botching the hand off in public. This creates a crack in the entire operation when police close in on the intriguing scene.

Favorite Quote:

Jordan Belfort: Sell me this pen.
Brad: Write me your name on this napkin.
Jordan Belfort: I can't, I don't have a pen.
Brad: There you go, it's a matter of supply and demand.

Review:

Wow. Anyone who watches this film will walk away with plenty of thoughts - positive and negative, depending on your opinion - but regardless, they will still be in shock. I guess I should open by saying overall, I enjoyed the Wolf of Wall Street. Some aren't able to take the amount profanity, graphic sex scenes, drugs, and other sheer debauchery in the film. And to be quite honest, there were times I wanted to walk away. But overall, I think it was used to really bring forward just how out of control the lifestyle was, and well is, for the Belforts of today.

And yes, at some point, you become a bit desensitized to the f-word. As it's been well documented, it set a film record for being said the most times in history for a film. Prepare yourself.

However, if (a big IF) you can get past those issues, the Wolf of Wall Street is an interesting movie that sheds life on the life of Jordan Belfort and the craziness that possibly occurs everyday from the 1% in our country. Director Martin Scorcese does a fantastic job of presenting this in the film, especially the scene in the final moments of Agent Dunham on the subway going home after a hard days work. Is this what good people get? And of course, again, the scary thought, just how many Jordan Belforts are currently out there.

Luckily, Scorcese used humor to really soften the blow of many of the over exorbitant or sad things that came about in the issues of drug addiction, prostitution, illegal activity, and everything that made up Belfort's glutton life.

As for what makes this film a huge plus is indeed the acting. Great acting by all involved. And of course, Leanardo DiCaprio was really, really, really good. He was fantastic. Everything about his portrayal of Jordan Belfort was a real joy to watch unfold.

Again, wow. From the elements that make up the movie, to the provoked thoughts that these are the kind of people who run our nation financially, this movie leaves you taken back.

Regardless, if you have the stomach for it, give it a watch. If not, consider it smut, and move along It's really a personal call.

3 Up
1. Tammie Jo Shults - Kudos to the captain of the Southwest aircraft that blew an engine. Shults was able to land the plane safely with busted engine, thus minimizing the fatality of the fiasco to just the one person who unfortunately was sucked out of a window. So crazy. All of it, so incredible.
1a. Southwest In-Flight Crew - More kudos to TJS's staff who not only pulled a woman being sucked out of a plane back into the aircraft, but managed to keep everyone onboard safe and poised during the emergency.
2. James Shaw Jr. - There were even more heroes this week as James Shaw Jr. wrestled a rifle away from a madman who rushed a Waffle House in Tennessee and opened up fire. Took lots of guts, but Shaw saved countless lives.
3. LeBron James - I don't understand how any sports fan can say anything about LeBron James. The dude once again is carrying a rather dubious contending roster on his back during these playoffs.

1. Bartolo Colon - Mannnnnnnn, this dude at 44 years old and at who knows how many pounds overweight, almost threw a perfect game against the defending World Series Champions on National television. Bartolo, don't you ever change.
2. Beyonce - I probably could just leave this "UP" as just "Beyonce", and really, most wouldn't even bat an eye at it. Regardless, she earned it this week, slaying as always. Beyonce killed it at Coachella with some awesome performances, reuniting with Destiny's Child, and of course, making history as the first black woman to headline the festival.
3. New York Mets - Even this Yankees fan has to give it up to the Mets and their hot start. They are playing some fun baseball, and well, it's backed by those big arms they need to rely on. Kudos to the Amazin's!

2013 Bucket List - #29 Attend Wrestlemania

It only took me twenty eight years and twenty-nine events, but I finally (finally!!) made it to Wrestlemania. I've attended so many wrestling events in my lifetime, from small local shows to pay-per-view events, from small local promotions, to the global companies, but never had I gone to the big one - Wrestlemania.
Upon hearing the huge event was returning to the metropolitan area at Met Life stadium, I knew I had to attend. As soon as tickets went on pre-sale, I purchased them...way back in November. I knew, if not now, then when? If not this year, then probably never. Some might not understand the importance of it, but to crazy wrestling addicts like myself, this is the show. And while it wasn't on the 2013 Bucket List, this was on my absolute lifetime list, and this past Sunday, I placed a big fat check mark next to it. The following is a little review of my Wrestlemania 29 experience, live!

The Pondering 10 - Favorite MLB Uniforms

Unlike most sports, baseball uniforms carry a lot of tradition and history. It's rare that you see baseball teams deviate away from the history of a club, and if they do, it's usually an ownership change. For the most part, in baseball, the uniforms are sacred. Because of that, Major League Baseball has many teams with uniforms that are very, very significant, and also, very stylish. As we did for the NFL (Pondering 10 - Favorite NFL Uniforms), the following Pondering 10 will take a look at my favorite MLB uniforms.
