The Pondering 10 - Favorite All-Time Color Commentators

After listing my favorite play-by-play announcers in a Pondering 10 back in 2011 (All-Time Play-By-Play Announcers), I figured that I would complete the tandem in the booth with my favorite color commentators. Some of the best guys are the one's who can add life to the usual happenings whether it be through in-depth analysis, teaching, story-telling, or even humor. Color commentators can even at times make the broadcast. With that said, here are my favorite all-time color commentators.

10. Walt "Clyde" Frazier - Some find Clyde to be annoying, but I actually find him to be entertaining. With his rhyming, deep use of the English language, and of course, his wardrobe, Clyde has a style and a presence that is distinct and signature.

9. Ron Darling - Darling is often underrated. The work he does for the Mets is awesome as he breaks down pitching nuances very well. He brings much to the TBS broadcasts of the MLB playoffs as well.

8. Joe Rogan - Rogan is easily the best color commentator in MMA. From his knowledge of the fighters to his ability to teach, explain and walk a viewer through situations in a fight, Rogan is top-notch.

7. Chris Collinsworth - Collinsworth is someone that does a great job in explaining and keeping the viewer  in tune with what is happening on the field. His distinct voice and honesty also lends to his style.

6. David Cone - Cone is one of those guys that brings life to a booth with his ability to tell stories, dwell from his experiences, is knowledgeable on the rest of the leaguen ad can relate everything to pop culture. Always a nice fresh blend.

5. John Madden - Boom! I miss John Madden. I'm not the biggest football fan, but there was something about Pat Summerall and John Madden that was always enjoyable.

4. Jeff Van Gundy - Mr. honesty. Van Gundy doesn't shy away from being PC or being a company guy. He tells his opinion, and often, it's in a very entertaining way. Plus, as a former coach, he brings knowledge to the telecast as well.

3. Al Leiter - I'm a big fan of Leiter. Simply, the guy is a pitching nerd, and you can learn so much from him in a broadcast. He breaks everything down. Everything. Always interesting to hear Leiter.

2. Bobby Heenan - "The Brain" was awesome. In my lifetime there has yet to be a better color commentary guy in pro wrestling. Heenan always had an entertaining quip for everything, and unlike the color commentators today, Heenan was always himself, and always consistent. Still miss the tandem of Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan.

1. Hubie Brown - The absolute best. No other color commentator attracts me to the television like Hubie Brown. The man actually teaches. Watching any game with Brown  on the headset is basically a class session. An awesome class session. No matter what game he calls, I'm always interested.

DP Review of the Alternate Knicks Orange Jersey

One of the good aspects about having a blog and being truthful and honest about it, is the hindsight thought process it provides. DP devotees already know how much I love my New York Knicks, and how excited I was about their new jerseys last year. It was a new look that was desperately needed ( DP Review On Knicks New Uniforms ).  In reviewing those jerseys last year, I had the following comments in regards to then-rumors regarding the addition of an alternative orange jersey for the Knicks and overall NBA changes to the Christmas Day special jerseys:  "As long as we do not add an "alternative jersey" (I read rumors of an orange one - woof!) (and the league-wide Spanish jerseys are fine). And please, please - PLEASE - let's finally do away with the awful green jerseys we feel the need to wear on Christmas and St. Patrick's day! Pretty please!"

Quick Ponder: Daily Armor

Imagine, if we can see the dents and scratches, the smashes and chaos,  on the daily armor, each of us put on. Just imagine.

Predictions and Wild Guesses for the 2024 MLB Season

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports After an off-season where the Los Angeles Dodgers spent the equivalent of a nation's GDP to acquire talent - I'm not sure if that's factual, but it felt like it - the 2024 MLB Season is finally here.  Sure, this Yankees fan is not just annoyed with the big spending of the Dodgers, but yeah, secretly envious as well. That used to be us, man!  Regardless, baseball is back on the docket. While my beloved New York Knicks have my attention and all of my heart, including what has been a fun March Madness period for men's and women's basketball, it's soothing to have baseball back. I can't explain what it is, but baseball just does that for me.  Nonetheless, let's do what we do in this post every year. Here are my wacky predictions and wild guesses for the 2024 season.  --- STANDINGS (WINS) AL EAST Orioles - 93 Yankees - 90 Blue Jays - 85 Red Sox - 82 Rays - 80 AL CENTRAL Twins - 88 Tigers - 86 Guardians - 81 Royals - 70 White Sox -
