2016 MLS Cup = More MLS, Please!

There are some who refuse to acknowledge the growing soccer trend in this country, or even the beauty of the game as a whole. However, after watching MLS Cup 2016, how can you not? What a game?!

Was it perfect? Absolutely not. In some aspects, I'm not a fan of PK's settling a winner and declaring a champion, but hey, whatevs. That's soccer. That's futbol.

Yet, in a year in which sports has given us the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Cubs, it's only right that the Seattle Sounders finally - FINALLY - break through and win their first cup. After all, for years, they've been excellent, and have been one of the league's premiere franchises.

The Sounders have consistently been a prime example of attendance excellence, topping 40,000+ per game. They've had the same club manager Sigi Schmid for years. And of course, they've had Mr. USA, Clint Dempsey on their squad. But year after year, they've always fallen short of the MLS Cup.

So of course, in a year in which they started in a horrific manner; they fired Schmid; they lost Dempsey for the season; and snuck into the playoffs on the VERY last week of the season, yeah, umm, they end up winning it all. And they did so in a title game without ever having a shot on goal. Yes! Not. One. Shot. Such a weird season. So weird.

But PK's were awesome to the Sounders, and of course, Stefan Frei had one of my favorite plays of the year. His save was absolutely amazing. Just crazy.

Oh Stefan Frei, you've never made a more important save than that one in your life!

I honestly can watch this save over, and over, and over, and over again.

Also, two other quick thoughts:

- Was Justin Morrow aiming for the top center portion of the goal? Hitting the top crossbar in the center just didn't seem right.

- How can you not be happy for Roman Torres?

I had the opportunity (and bucket list task) this past summer of attending a Seattle Sounders home game. I can tell you from my experience then, the Sounders fan base is phenomenal, and that I know Seattle must be rockin' from this victory. In fact, the Sounders fanbase is one of my favorites in all of sports, and truthfully, I'm jealous of how passionate they are about their team.

Of course, in being there during the time they began to turn it around after hitting rock bottom and being in last place, I feel a slight bit connected/invested in this victory for the Sounders.

Either way, this game just inched me closer to another step towards truly becoming a bigger fan of this sport, and really, of this league. As the NFL continues to slide off my plate (more on that in a later post), I have no problem making more and more room for the MLS.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 5/20/18

3 Up
1. JJ Watt - Watt is just a stand-up guy. No other way to say it. An athlete that embraces the city he plays in, in times of good, and when he is needed. Paying for the funerals of all of the victims in the latest school shooting is just another example of the kind of dude Watt really is. So much props.
2. Sante Fe Admins - So many times in these shootings, the efforts and bravery of the many who help to keep students safe, calm, and diffuse the situation often goes without praise and notice. Once again, much love and praise to those who did so once again. And yes, to those who lost their lives doing so as well.
3. Las Vegas Golden Knights - In their inaugural season, the Golden Knights are in the Stanley Cup Finals, and quite frankly, could possibly win the whole damn thing. It's so impressive, and speaks to the parity of the NHL. But really, if you're a fan of a team currently in a drought (say, like my New York Knicks?), this run is absolutely remarkable.

Dear Son, On Location

--36 Weeks (Before Birth)--
Dear Son,
You've been acting up as of late, and really, something tells me that it won't be the last time I have to say that to or about you in the upcoming years. That's parenting, I guess. But you've become quite the active guy inside your mother's belly - kicking, shifting, spinning, and making her uncomfortable in the most random of moments.
I'll never forget you intentionally blocking your face during the recent sonogram photo. Or even, when they attempted to shift your body, you bending over and showing your butt to the monitor.
Already, such a proud father. That's my kid. But yeah, you're an active fella.

Thoughts on Latest NFL Anthem Policy Change

There is a part of me that didn't even want to EVER touch this topic again. I said what I said in the past on the highly controversial topic, and then followed up a year later, and vowed there was no point. After all, no matter how many times issues of clear social injustice is brought up, there will be those who will look to thwart it, especially by draping themselves in a false sense of "patriotism".
But, here we are. Another post on the this entire ordeal. I'm at a point where I simply laugh at callers on sports radio, political pundits on air, or even the casual individual who voices their opinion against the situation - thank you random guy at the gym, your commentary and viewpoints keep my grounded in America's pulse.
And now, the NFL, emboldened it all of it's arrogance, in it's lack of understanding, in it's negligence of player understanding or safety, and yes, it's fear of President Trump and it's supporters has managed to take so…

Dome Pondering Movie Review: Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

What is it about?
A mother challenges the authorities in town to capture the suspect responsible for her daughter's murder with three controversial billboards that stir up many feelings and a series of events in town.
Who is in it?
Frances McDormand - Mildred
Woody Harrelson - Willoughby
Sam Rockwell - Dixon
Favorite Scene:

After the billboards stir up much controversy in town, the local priest stops by to also attempt to use faith to get Mildred to take down the billboards. She then erupts in an awesome monologue comparing the Catholic church and it's authorities to the Crips and Blood gangs.
