Dome Pondering Movie Review: Spy (2015)

What is it about?

A former spy tied to desk duties volunteers to go undercover by infiltrating the world's largest arms dealer and to avenge the "death" of her field agent.

Who is in it?

Melissa McCarthy - Susan Cooper

Jude Law - Bradley Fine

Jason Statham - Rick Ford

Favorite Scene:

After having her cover blown on the plane as the random friend who saved Rayna's life, Susan flips the script and forces her to believe that she was hired to protect her.

Favorite Quote:

"How about we just get a face-off machine, and I just get a new face!"

"Nothing kills me. I'm immune to 179 different types of poison. I know because I ingested them all at once when I was deep undercover in an underground poison-ingesting crime ring."

Review:

Spy really took me by surprise. It really, really did. I didn't expect the film to be such a good one, nor such a funny one. I still remember seeing the trailer on television and thinking, "ehhhh, whatevs". Again, so wrong. Lesson learned. Orrrrrr, maybe just a really bad trailer.

Nonetheless, Spy takes all of the spy and recon films and does comedy the right way. From the silly action moments, the over-dramatic scenes and characters, to the death-defying issues that spies encounter and survive, the film pokes fun at it, while still delivering it's own plot that makes the film unique.

Melissa McCarthy was really good in this film, however, it was Jason Statham who stole the film for me. Easily, for me at least, the best character and film I have ever enjoyed him in. His quotes all movie-long were just downright hilarious.

All in all, not a classic, but it's a film that is worth a good watch if you have some free time.

Grade: 3/5

One More Year of Possible Frustration. A Future of Guaranteed Idiocy.

One Year.

After all the drama, after all of the controversy, it now comes down to one year for Isiah Thomas to turn around the mess that he created. Isiah has one year to improve the group of misfits that he has put together for an NBA roster.

One Year.

Good luck Isiah.

The fact of the matter is that the Knicks are a mess. They have become arguably the most embarassing franchise in sports. A collection of high-priced players with no resumes of winning else where combined with a lack of leadership on the coaching, front office and ownership level is a combustible formula for any sports organization. It's sad. It's sad to see an organization that is used to winning and has a history of greatness and class reduced to nothing. Guys such as Patrick Ewing, Clyde Frazier and Willis Reed all who have worn that illustrious blue and Orange "New York" across their chests with pride and dignity are now an afterthought. Madison Square Garden - the mecca of basketball, and most hi…

3 Up
1. Women's March - I'm happy to see this movement wasn't just a reactionary thing to last year's happenings, but one that continues to move forward. It's a continue reminder that the fight for equality for us all is still ongoing.
2. Aly Raisman - Raisman stood up land et the world know what was done to her and how corrupt USA gymnastics currently is. She really left it all out there, and it was quite eyebrow raising. It was also just as sickening to hear what has been going on, and what has been covered up.
3. Tom Brady and the Patriots - Give the man his due. Brady is 40 years old and still winning. I don't care for the Super Bowl all that much anymore, but I recognize and respect the greatness. It's a once-in-a-generation deal, and I appreciate it.
3 Down
1. Government Shutdown - Ugh. Come on...I don't care whose fault it is, this is a disaster.
2. Deportation of Jorge Garcia - Look, I'm going to say something I'm sure will divide tho…

The Pondering 10 - All-Time Favorite Championship Belts

With the WWE finally moving on from the ridiculousness that was the appearance of the WWE championship (Really, they kept a spinning title for eight years), and of course the unveiling the look of the title, it got the wheels turning on the best looks for championship belts. From pro wrestling, boxing (although, don't expect to see any on this list as they are usually ugly), and mixed martial arts, there are plenty of different models, types, and appearances that come with them. The following Pondering 10 list is my favorite all-time championship belts.

2014 Bucket List #31 - Attend a TNA Wrestling Taping

I've been hoping (really hoping!) for the longest time that TNA would bring a batch of TNA tapings to this wonderful city. Every time they decided to take an Impact broadcast on the road, or hype the announcement of the location of a future pay-per-view, I genuinely think in my head - OK, this is it, they're coming babaaay! NYC!
Ummmmm, yeah. Not so much. And I'm left disappointed whenever the announcement is made. Sometimes it's a city that I just tip my hat and say, "Alright, enjoy the show chicago!" Or I just end up shaking my head in annoyance while I'm raging inside with comments like - Miami?!!! Seriously! That's where you're going? Over us?!
