Page of Fame Class 2015 - James L. Dolan

Oh, folks, this is going to be a good one. Long-time DP devotees know about my annoyance and heartache with my beloved New York Knicks. Yup, love hurts, right? Well, much of that hurt began when James L. Dolan took over the operations of Madison Square Garden from his father, including the Knicks, and it's been a struggle ever since.

Ask any true New Yorker or Knicks fan about James Dolan, and you'll be sure to get an interesting reaction. The son of Charles Dolan, who once ran a proud empire with successful teams and little no controversy, handed over10% of thus empire to the younger Dolan as almost a vanity project. Here son, you really haven't done much, here is some responsibility. Go run MSG!

Adding to the Dolan persona is the fact that he has a band and still is active as a guitarist. I'm serious, just Google "JD and the Straight Shots". And of course there are the numerous amount of meddling he does with the Knicks which leads to making bad deals, intervening in basketball decisions, and oh yeah, the unconditional love for Isiah Thomas (whose Presidency with the Knicks was a disaster) to run something - anything! - within his MSG jurisdiction. All which are mind-boggling and annoying.

I'll give him some credit, Dolan does some fantastic charity work with the Garden of Dreams Foundation and other numerous, mostly anonymous, donations.

However, for this New Yorker, the above usually is what wins out and annoys us Knicks fans to no end. A two-time two-time "Idiot of the Year" Pondy Award winner (2007 and 2010), Dolan continues to provide me with fodder to write and vent on here at the DP.

Welcome to the DP Page of Fame, Jimmy D, even if the Knicks win a championship one day, you'll never be forgotten, and will always be interesting.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 4/23/17

3 Up
1. Serena Williams - Just when Serena Williams' legend couldn't grown any larger, we find out this week that not only is she pregnant, but yes, she won her last major while pregnant. I've said it for awhile, but Williams is one of the best athletes of all-time. Certainly one of mine.
2. Russell Westbrook - Yes, he's down 3-1 to James Harden and the Rockets, but the way he's putting up triple-doubles is unreal. It's basically video-game like at this point.
3. Fox News - A slight minor hit for Fox in finally - FINALLY - doing away with Bill O'Reilly and cleaning up the good old boy club they allowed to dominate the station, while also sexually harassing many. White old men...the privilege and power it produces never ceases to amaze me.
3 Down
1. North Korea Threat - So now North Korea is threatening to sink a U.S. Aircraft carrier. Anything North Korea typically makes me shake my head, and in the same though, concerned. It's amazing how weird the w…

Dope Sports Threads - World Baseball Classic 2017

As you probably know already, I LOVE the World Baseball Classic. I love everything about it. The tournament. The culture. And especially, the early access to competitive baseball. And of course, with it comes an opportunity for some dope threads we don't typically see - cleats, uniforms, catcher's gear, accesories, etc...
Unlike Major League Baseball and some of the rules from it's clubs, the WBC provided an opportunity for some fun new stuff, including some customization and personalization from players. With that said, here are a few of the things that I really liked from the 2017 World Baseball Classic:
Uniforms were interesting. Most of the uniforms in this tournament had a template-like feel, especially the road jerseys which featured a dark gray and colored sleeves. Part of this change was Team Japan, whose uniforms were unlike everyone else in the tournament, and easily in my opinion, the best.

The wide stripes are so dope and the font compliments it well. Some c…

2017 Bucket List #1 - Visit Marlins Park

My 14th MLB stadium (not counting the ones that are no longer - RIP old Yankee Stadium) was in fact Marlins Park in wonderful Miami, Florida. I had the opportunity to check off two bucket list items in my visit by seeing the park, AND being present for the World Baseball Classic opening round. Of course, I'll have more on the latter in another post.
Regardless, back to Marlins Park. My first and major takeaway is in fact tied to the bureaucracy that has surrounded the building since it's inception. The park is located in a peculiar location in Miami. Very apparent of the cheap land acquired, and the socioeconomics of the neighborhood that surrounds it. Though, much like the two games I went to, the ballpark has given many of the neighboring folks revenue-generating opportunities, renting out their front yards for parking and other tailgating opportunities. Makes for a unique concept.
