2013 DP All-Star Clash - 2nd Round (Wrigley and Dillon, Texas Brackets)

After an intriguing first round that saw a few upsets and some easy wins, we take the Clash to the second round with a whole new slew of topics, and as always, new match-ups. This round will be another best of three scenario based upon the following topics for Round 2 - 1. Better President; 2. Worth paying to see live; and 3. The Dinner Test, who would make for the better dinner date.

Here is a look at the current brackets as they shake out.

Wrigley Field Bracket

#1 Batman vs. #4 David Beckham

1. Better President - Well, let's remove the glaring obvious that David Beckham cannot be President because well, he's from England. And honestly, neither can Batman because who knows what country Gotham lies in. However, we'll operate under the premise of who is more fit to lead a country. Batman isn't one for politics, but he just get's the job done. However, can you imagine a state of the union address by Batman? Wearing that outfit in the House of Reps? I'll go with Beckham here as he has the looks, the public speaking talent, the charisma, and a history of achieving goals throughout his career.  (Beckham 1-0)

2. Worth Paying to See Live - Beckham is an amazing soccer player. I've been lucky to see him in person in a scrimmage prior to the MLS All-Star Game. As for Batman, what he does is remarkable. I'd pay to see him destroy some of Joker's goons. Heck, I'd pay just to ride in the Batmobile. (Tied 1-1)

3. Dinner Test - Who would make the better dinner date? For the same reasons above, I don't see Batman being very talkative during dinner. Even as Bruce Wayne he has a very introverted personality. As for Beckham, it would be pretty cool to pick his brain on his life, on soccer, and other issues around the world. Highly interesting stuff especially for a man so well traveled. And how can we forget, Posh may even join him. Huge plus! Looks like last year's champ goes down to the Brit! (Beckham wins 2-1).

#2 Adele vs. #6 CM Punk

1. Better President - First, let me just say this is such a weird match-up. But hey, it's what makes The DP Clash so much fun. Same rules apply here from above for Adele, another Brit. Adele wins everything and is adored by everyone, but has a tendency to relay her political messages in a not so offensive way. As for CM Punk, he'll let you know what he thinks, and that is pretty much that. As much as it would be cool to have a President end a State of the Union with "Best in the World!", Adele gets the nod here. (Adele 1-0).

2. Worth Paying to See Live - Tough one. Such a tough one. While CM Punk is a great wrestler, Adele has one of those once-in-a-generation voices. Hard to argue with that, even if you are CM Punk. (Adele Wins 2-0)

Dillon, Texas Bracket

#1 Justin Beiber vs. #4 Michael Phelps

1. Better President - Wow, talk about star power here. Well, right off the bat I'll tell you that Justin Beiber would make an awful President, or Prime Minister (I keep forgetting he's Canadian) at this stage in his life. The guy has become in-love with himself - sorry "Beliebers". I would go with Phelps seeing as how he has already represented his country, and understands the importance of doing so. Would that little pot incident affect his vote? Sure. But I think he'd get elected and do a better job than Beebs. (Phelps 1-0).

2. Worth Paying to See Live - I have no interest in see Beiber live. And even if I tried to dig deep to find a reason, I can't justify giving him the nod over one of the greatest athletes to ever walks God's green earth. (Phelps Wins 2-0)

#2 Kobe Bryant vs. #3 Jennifer Lawrence

 1. Better President - Kobe Bryant. No discussion necessary on this one. When the guy is motivated, he sets out to do it. Lawrence seems too bubbly. Great actor, but not the type to lead a country. (Bryant 1-0).

2. Worth Paying to See Live - Easy. Kobe Bryant, period. (Bryant wins 2-0)

Unpacking Thoughts on Charlottesville

This weekend has been exhausting. Despite the constant systemic injustice that is the United States of America, it's a moment like this weekend that is delivered and must be unpacked and discussed carefully in the pursuit of social justice - justice that is long deserved.
There is plenty wrapped up in everything that is Charlottesville, Virigina. This is deep, spans back to the beginning of this nation, and is a result of current times as well.
I'm still decompressing it all. Here are a few quick thoughts as I too wrap my mind, my emotions, and my intellect and rationale around it:

I Am My Brother's Keeper (Part 1)

It's been almost seven years since I last saw or heard from my oldest brother. No phone calls. No text messages. Not even a Facebook friend request. So as I sit here contemplating the words in which I will place on a note that he will eventually read, I am torn, emotional, confused, and even a bit reluctant to go through with this process. However, I know I have to do this. It is an act that will eventually close a chapter that is still open, though it has been cold for this long. And whether he accepts this initiative on my part in this tangled web, or whether he decides to throw those anticipated and hopeful words out with the trash, one way or another, this chapter of silence comes to an end.
I've never really mentioned my oldest brother here at the DP. In fact, until my wedding, I've never mentioned any of my brothers. Like many of you reading this, I have quite the unorthodox family. And for those of you who don't, count your blessings, and do not take it for gr…

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 8/13/17

3 Up
1. Los Angeles Dodgers - In a rough week where the real world just crushes us, the dominance of the Dodgers is one that leaves us in awe, and can take us out into something great for a few minutes.
2. Derek Jeter The Owner - Is there anything that Derek Jeter loses at? The Captain is now part owner of the Miami Marlins, and get this - will be the first owner and CEO of color within MLB. That's HUGE.
3. Married at 98 - These two are getting married at 98 (He's 94). How about they both workout at the gym twice-a-week, and met there. So cool in so many ways. Good for them!
3 Down
1. Charlottesville - So many layers to this story. Hate. History. The ridiculous response from our President. And the apparent shock some in this country have that people are out there who still have this ideology. Point blank, this was terrorism.
2. Trump and North Korea - Just before Charlottesville, Trump talked tough for absolutely no reason in a back-and-forth that unfortunately effects hund…

Dope Sports Threads - MLB Player's Weekend Gear

I love everything about MLB Player's Weekend. From the moment it was rumored way back over the winter, I have been anticipating the announcements of what I feel is baseball finally - FINALLY - looking to modernize itself. Well, at least just a bit. Baby steps.

While I love MLB Uniforms and the tradition that comes with them, I do get annoyed with the over-abundance and wacky uniforms we see from the NBA. With that said, I like the idea of keeping this to one weekend. Where it becomes sort of a spectacle. And it is thus far.

Ultimately, I like that players are getting more say so in changing the antequated mentality that baseball currently has here in the States. Regardless, I'm sure most have seen the names, the uniforms and the gear. Here are my thoughts on the ones that caught my eye:
