Dome Pondering Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (2010)

What is it about? 

Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her over.

Favorite Scene: 

After learning about the seven evil exes that will be coming for him, Scott battles one of the weirdest ones in the form of a vegan with special powers and strength. 

Favorite Quote:

"When I'm around you, I kind of feel like I'm on drugs. Not that I do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case I do them all the time. All of them."

Review: 

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is such an interesting and unique movie. It's definitely not a film for everyone, but if you have an appreciation for video games, arcades, and a easy sense of humor, you will find this film to be very good. If you are missing the aforementioned, this film may seem alright, but really liking it will be a bit of a stretch. 

One of the coolest things I took away from the movie is it's presentation as a video game with classic graphics, soundtracks, and of course, the defeated enemy bursting into coins with the overhead score popping up to conclude the battle. The other very cool part of this film is the constant flow of the film from scene to scene without any true downtime. This also can hurt the film with others who like digesting scenes as it fades to black, but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World does this in such a way that keeps you engaged. 

Finally, the humor in this movie is subtle, but very funny within the already child-like theme of things with catchy one-liners, and the classic Michael Cera perfected nerd-typecast which he does so well. Scott Pilgrim  the character seems like the adult version of Paulie Bleeker from Juno. 

All in all, Scott Pilgrim is a fantastic film that unfortunately will not appeal to some. However, for the niche that is attracted to the concept, it's quite the recommendation. 

Give this one a chance, you may love it, if not, atleast you can respect the interesting concept it produced.

Sunday Sundown Rundown - 4/7/24

3 Up 1. Wrestlemania 40 - I don't think it's hyperbole, WM40 is likely to be remembered as one of the best Wrestlemanias of all time. A memorable and happy ending likely will encourage that narrative as well.  2. Women's Basketball - A HUGE weekend for women's basketball! First, Iowa and UCONN smash (!!) the ratings record on ESPN (for ANY televised basketball game) then we get a great championship game. The women's game has amazing storylines, superstars, likable individuals, and overall, a better quality of game.  And of course, the WNBA draft is next Monday. Keep it rolling, ladies!  3. Pig Kidney Transplant - I can't (still) can't believe this is real, but the patient who received an A.I. generated pig kidney in a transplant has officially gone home. WWE Wrestlemania XL Review: "I absolutely loved this Wrestlemania"

It's easy to get caught up and become a prisoner of the moment. Especially in today's world where the latest moment is ostracized, super-analyzed, and hyperbolized - it's very much the clickbait, social media, microwave society we live in.  Yet, even after acknowledging that (as well as my Tribal Chief, of course), I still come to this feeling that Wrestlemania XL is one of the best Wrestlemania's, ever.  Yes, ever!  I don't need Triple H's metrics and benchmarks to influence me. No, no, no! In terms of hype, storylines, payoffs, match quality, and just overall fun - this entire weekend was amazing.  I'm slightly skewed in my preference as well. This was my son's first Wrestlemania as a pro wrestling fan. Having him at my side cheering on his favorites, getting caught up in the drama, and even crying at the end of the night because his Tribal Chief lost to "that no good Cody" added to the overall appreciation of the event.  So yeah, I have some
