Predictions and Wild Guesses For The 2012 MLB Season

Baseball is back! And it is safe to safe to say I haven't been this excited for a season in a long time. The Yankees season (of course) is always the focus of my spring/summer and if all goes well, fall (and my life pretty much), but with the addition of the extra wild card, the infusion of young talent in the game, the increasing competitive balance, and the movement of several big names, the league as a whole is intriguing. And after one of the greatest World Series in years, there is an added interest from casual fans. In typical DP fashion, we're going to take a look into the crystal ball and attempt to predict, of course with some wild guesses, the 2012 MLB Season.

Over/Under

Mets Attendance 2.5 Million: Over - Mets will be better than what everyone expects, but will still finish last.

35 Home Runs for A-Rod: Under - 30 homers max. Major offensive years are well behind A-Rod.

40/40 for Matt Kemp: Under - Kemp will be a 40/40 guy, and possibly, as he's reaching for, a 50/50 guy.

20 Errors For Miguel Cabrera: Under - Cabrera has better hands than some are giving him credit for.

180 Strikeouts for Yu Darvish: Under - There has to be a learning curve, right?

14 Wins for Neftali Feliz: Under - Feliz will grow into a solid starter, but 14 wins is a bit high right now.

20 Home Runs for David Wright: Over - CitiField fences are in. The right-center gap is no more. Expect a big year from Mr. Wright.

900 Total Runs for Rangers Offense: Under - Rangers offense is scary, but not 1927 Yankees scary.

50 Home Runs for Jose Bautista: Under - 50 is a tough number post steroids.

20 Wins for Justin Verlander: Over- He's probably surpassed Halladay and Felix Hernandez as the best pitcher in the game.

70 Games for Manny Ramirez: Over - Barely over. Ramirez will need time to adjust and adapt. May even platoon in DH spot depending on Oakland's season.

Mariano Rivera 1 More Season: Under - Sadly, I think this season is it for my favorite athlete ever.

Dome Pondering Movie Review: The After (2023)

What is it about? In a short film, a grieving man confronts his past when he comes face-to-face with a passenger.  Who is in it? David Oyelowo - Dayo Jessica Plummer - Amanda Amelie Dokubo - Laura  Favorite Scene: It's an extremely short film, so...the final few moments.  Favorite Quote:  None. (not much dialogue) Review: This eighteen-minute masterpiece is amazing. You're absolutely taken on this ride of emotions that ultimately leaves you with a great realization of questioning what we value in life.  The lead character, in eighteen minutes, is powerful. His grief is carried through the film, exploding at the end. It very much leaves the viewer with so many questions - what was his life before the tragedy? What was his life after that moment? Did he ever reconnect with that family? Did he rediscover happiness?  Again, a very, VERY, powerful eighteen minutes that will jolt the heart, mind, and soul about life, what is important, and what we overvalue in its place.  Grade: 4/5

2024 NBA All-Star Weekend Thoughts

There's something wrong with the All-Star Game.  Yeah, we've definitely had this conversation before. Expect to pick up this very discussion (again) in July when Major League Baseball has their version in the "Mid-Summer Classic" when it is the ONLY current topic to bounce around in the stratosphere of sports discourse.  What's wrong with the All-Star Game?!  I'm not dismissing the obvious - yes, the NBA All-Star Game is very much at an alarming point of necessary refinement and change - evaluation is needed. What we saw on Sunday night was not disappointing, but outright embarrassing. Also yes, gone are the days when the game flooded your television screen at a respectable 6:30pm on NBC, and you were wowed by the athleticism and star power of the first half of the game, and treated to what felt like the world's best players playing pickup basketball on the grandest stage.  Now? Not so much. So yeah, we got the message. The outrage - and shock TV and hot t
